Similarities between the two extremist Islamist Groups

1. Origin in Political Islam: Both Hamas and ISIS have roots in political Islam and draw inspiration from radical Islamist ideologies.

2. Use of Terrorism: Both groups have utilized brutal acts of terror as a tool against those they view as adversaries.

3. Desire for Islamic Governance: Both groups advocate for the establishment of governance based on their interpretations of Sharia law.

4. Hostility Towards the West: Both organizations harbor a deep-seated disdain for Western countries, exhibiting disrespect and animosity towards Western culture and ethos.

5. Militant and Inhumane Tactics: Each group not only has a military wing or a militant approach to achieving its objectives, but they also employ harsh and often inhumane military tactics against their adversaries.

6. Deep-rooted Animosity Towards the U.S.: For both groups, the United States stands as the conceptual and practical embodiment of their greatest adversary. This perception of the U.S. as the ultimate "devil" is a cornerstone of their dogmatic continuum.

7. Anti-Israel Stance: Both groups have expressed enmity towards the state of Israel, vehemently calling for its obliteration and staunchly denying its right to exist. They not only refer to it pejoratively as the 'Zionist entity' but also frequently advocate for the violent decimation of Jews and Israelis.

8. Media Savvy: Both Hamas and ISIS have demonstrated a sophisticated understanding of the media, using it for propaganda and recruitment.

9. Governance Ambitions: Beyond their militant endeavors, both groups have aspired to establish and administer governance in territories under their dominion.

10. Recruitment from Global Jihadist Pool: Both groups draw from a pool of global jihadist fighters and encourage foreign fighters to join their ranks.

11. Use of Brutality: Both groups have not shied away from using extreme brutality, committing atrocities, whether in warfare, punishments, or as intimidation tactics.

12. Funding Through Illicit Means: Both organizations have been accused of using illicit means, including smuggling and other illegal activities, to fund their operations.

13. Seeking Regional Allies: While their allies might differ, both Hamas and ISIS have sought regional partnerships to bolster their positions.

14. Internal Policing: In areas they control, both groups have set up mechanisms for internal policing and enforcement of their interpretation of laws and norms. The severity of their regulations and the extreme nature of their punishments stand as a testament to their rigorous governance.

15. Endorsement of Martyrdom: Both groups emphasize the concept of martyrdom, valorizing those who sacrifice their lives for the cause. This shared value not only serves as a recruitment tool but also fuels their narratives of resistance, struggle and deep-seated hatred against perceived enemies.
